We go today to the famous tribe, the Bonda, and also to the Gadaba. Bonda Tribe live in the remote hills and keep themselves isolated. They can only be seen when they come to trade at the local market, and we must time our visit to coincide with the weekly market day on Thursday. The Bonda women are noticeable by their bead necklaces, striking brass and silver necklets and their shaved heads decorated with plaits of Palmyra leaves. In the morning we visit Periyar National Park by boat on the lake encompassing 26 sq km area. Apart from other wild animals such as tiger, wildboar, bison, sambar and spotted dear which are found in the Park, Periyar is primarily known for wild elephants. In addition there are 246 species of birds and 112 species of butterflies.
