It is said that North India is vibrant and colourful. South is in harmony with nature with old traditions. Both sides garlanded by the seas, South India has some finest shore temples. In this tour we start from the eastern coast and end up on western coast with a houseboat trip on backwater in Kerala.

CHENNAI
Arrival in Chennai and sightseeing Kapeleshwar Temple, Sri Parthasarthy Temple and Fort St George and Marina Beach.

CHENNAI/COVELONG/MAHABALIPURAM
Drive 38 kms to Covelong and then coastal trek to the Eastern Coast till Mahabalipuram. Visit famous temple of Mahabalipuram on shore.

MAHABALIPURAM/PONDICHERRY
Drive 90 kms to Pondicherry. Sightseeing of Pondicherry visiting Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville village. Auroville reflects the principles of Sri Aurobindo and is focussed on meditation and spiritual regeneration.

PONDICHERRY/THANJAVUR
Drive 200 kms. Enroute we visit Vaithaleeswaran Temple. This place is known for Palm Leaves Astrology. Your future is read from Old Tamil scripts which were written in ancient times by 18 saints. Thanjavur was the ancient capital of Chola Kings.

THANJAVUR/MADURAI
Morning we visit Brihadeshwara Shiva Temple, also known as Big Temple, which is a crowning glory of Cholas, built by Raja Raja (985 – 1014). A dome of 63 m high encloses an enormous Shiva Lingam, a single piece granite stone weighing 81 tonnes. A statue of Nandi (Shiva’s Bull) of a single granite rock of 6 m long guards the entrance. After visiting Temple we drive 195 kms to Madurai spread along the banks of the rocky bed of the Vaigai River.

MADURAI/PERIYAR
Madurai has been one of South India’s oldest cities. Morning visit to Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. Though the temple is very old but the bulk of the temple was built during the reign of Nayak King (1623 – 55). Thousands visit the Temple every day. Afternoon drive 180 km to Periyar.

PERIYAR
Visit to Periyar Wildlife Park on a boat in the morning. Periyar is known for the Wild Elephants. Apart from wild elephants other wild animals such as tiger, wild boar, bison, sambhar and spotted bear are also found in the sanctuary. Afternoon walk for 2 – 3 in the forest.

PERIYAR/MUNNAR
Drive 110 kms to Munnar which is famous for its tea, pepper and rubber plantation and is a hill station as well. Highest peak of South India “Ana Mudi (2694 m)” is here.

MUNNAR
We visit Raja Malai National Park to see Nilgiri Thars where we make some walks inside the Park. While driving to the Park we go through beautiful tea gardens where we might see workers plucking tea leaves.

MUNNAR/COCHIN
Drive 160 kms to Cochin, well known harbour in the world.

COCHIN
Sightseeing visiting Chinese Fishing Nets, Jewish Synagogues and Spice Markets. Evening watch Kathakali Dance.

 

 

12

COCHIN/ALLEPEY/HOUSE BOAT
Drive 60 km to Allepey from where we begin boating on backwater. Overnight in the House Boat.

 

 

13

HOUSE BOAT/COCHIN/CHENNAI
We get off the house boat before noon and drive to Cochin airport, 100 km/ 2 hr to catch flight to Madras at 1515. Arrive in Madras at 1615. Rest of the time free. Late evening transfer to the airport for international flight connection.

CHENNAI/DEPARTURE
Transfer to international airport for flight back home.
