Zanskar with Stok Kangri

This programme offers you the most beautiful landscape of Zanskar going over passes up and down seven times. The highest pass that we cross is Singe La (5060 m). Thus this trek is meant for those who are hard trekkers. While we drive from Leh to Padum we have an excellent view of Nun (7135 m) and Kum (7077 m).

Ascent of Stock Kangri (6153 m) is an icing on the cake to end your journey to this mesmerizing land of Ladakh & Zanskar.

Delhi
Arrival in Delhi and transfer to Hotel. Combined sightseeing of Old and New Delhi visiting Red Fort built in 1648 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, Raj Ghat and Shantivan, the cremation sites of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru, Qutub Minar built in 1199, Humayun Tomb, India Gate (War Memorial Arch), Laxmi Narayan Temple and then pass through the government buildings i.e. President House and the Parliament House.

DELHI/LEH (3500 M)
After early morning breakfast transfer to the airport for flight to Leh. Arrive in Leh and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon free for acclimatization.

LEH
Visit Shey, Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Hemis is the most important gompas in Ladakh, famous for Hemis Festival. Drive back to Leh for the Overnight.

LEH/LAMAYURU(3440 M)/KAGRIL (2650 M)
Morning drive 120 km/4 hrs to Lamayuru monastery which is set amidst stark and dramatic mountains. Enjoy the spectacular landscape of Lamayuru. After visiting the monastery we further drive 100 kms/4 hrs to Kargil. Overnight in simple hotel.

KARGIL/RANGDUM (3600 M)
Drive 180 kms/6 hrs on a difficult road to Rangdum. We visit the monastery there on arrival. Overnight in tents.

RANGDUM/PADUM (3650 M)
Drive 210 kms/7 hrs over Phenji La (4401 m) to Padum. Overnight in tents.

PADUM/KARSHA/RINAM (3500 M)
We begin the trekking. Today we trek through the easy stretches often hot and dusty through the bank of Zanskar river and a small stream and shelter formed by rocks. From Padam head towards Pipiting and follow a dusty plain towards the Doda river and reach bridge. Cross the bridge to reach Karsha Monastry dating back to the 16th centuary. It is the largest and the most wealthy of all monasteries in Zanskar. Further trekking down on the plain path is Rinam. Overnight in Tent. (6-7 hrs)

RINAM / PISSU (3500 M)
We trek to other side of the Zanskar river and go to Zangla where we visit ruins of the caste situated at very high up the village from where you will have a nice view. The Castle temple has Thankas, wood figures and Kashmiri bronze figures. Further trekking down to other side of the Zanskar river we reach Pissu a small village with good camping site. Overnight in Tent (6-7 hrs).

PISSU/HANUMIL (3370 M)
Follow left bank of Zanskar river. Easy going along the river, sometimes across the morainic plateau. Overnight in Tent. (5-6 hrs)

HANUMIL/PURFILA (3950 M)/SNERTSE (4200 M)
Now onwards the path leads us away from Zanskar river. Climb up to Parfi-La (3950 m) and then steep descend until reaching the Oma-Chu river. Crossing over the bridge and further climb up a 500 m sandy slope we reach the sheepfolds of Snertse. (6-7 hrs)

SNERTSE/HANUMI LA (4750 M) /LENGSHED (3540 M)
Long gradual ascend towards Hanumi-La (4877 m). Reach the top of Hanumi-La and then steep descent about 1000 meters. Again climb about 400 meter up along the moutain side, cross a small pass and then easy descent to Lingshed (3800 m). Overnight in Tent. (7-8 hrs)

LINGSHED/FOOT OF SHINGE LA (4375 M)
Gradual one hour climb to the Murgum-la (4200 m) then pass an escarpment, go along the slope. Gentle descent towards the villages of Gongma and Skiumpata. Steep climb to Kiupa-la (3850 m) and then gradual climb along mountainside to the foot of Shinga-la. Overnight in Tent (7-8 hrs).

FOOT OF SHINGE-LA/PHOTOSKAR (4100 M)
About one to two hours steep climb to Shinge-la (5060 m) and then descending to a broad valley. Again gentle climb towards Bhumiktse-la (4200 m) and descending towards Photoskar (3750 m), a splendid village. Overnight in Tent. (7-8 hrs)

PHOTOSKAR/SISIR LA (4990 M) /HANUPATTA (3780 M)
From Photoskar it’s gentle climb upto a large chorten, then long ascent of Sisir-la (4990 m). An easy descend to the river and village Hanupatta (3450 m). Overnight in tent .6-7 hrs)

HANUPATTA/WANLA (3245 M)/ALCHI (3150 M)
Trek down the slope untill entering the gorge and the bridge at the junction of the two rivers. Some easy some difficult stretches of fallen rocks untill Phenjilla. Afterwards its trekking on motorable road upto Wanla (3245 m). Thereafter, drive 55 kms/3 hrs to Alchi for the overnight in Hotel/Guest house (5-6 hrs)

ALCHI/LIKIR/ LEH 3500 M)
Morning visit to the 11th century Alchi monastery which is well known for the Kashmiri style wall painting. Thereafter, drive 75 kms/3 hrs back to Leh enroute visiting Likir monastery which stands majestically on the hill with the future Buddha 23 m high besides it. It also houses a museum of Thankas and many other antiques. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

LEH/STOK/BASE CAMP(5000 M)
We begin our expedition to Stok Kangri today. First we drive 40 kms/2 hrs to Stok from where its about 5-6 hrs trek to Stok Kangri Base Camp (5000 m). Stok Kangri (6120 mtrs) is a popular Peak for mountain climbers and the base came provide a magnificent view of the Indus Valley. Overnight in Tent.

BASE CAMP/SUMMIT(6153 M)/BASE CAMP(5000 M)
Summit attempt Mt Stok Kangri (6121 m). Crampons and ice axe are advised to be part of the equipment for the day of summit. Overnight in Tent.

BASE CAMP/ASCEND(6153 M)/BASE CAMP (5000 M)
2nd summit attempt or Buffer Day at Base Camp.

BASE CAMP/LEH (3500 M)
Trekking down to Stok and then drive to Leh. Overnight in Hotel.

LEH / DELHI
Early morning transfer to Leh airport for flight to Delhi. Rest of the time free in Delhi.

DELHI/DEPARTURE
